Capturing the Enemy
24 Aug, 2014 @ 1:15 pm - 3:00 pm
Capturing the Enemy is an original theatre production commissioned by the Rottnest Island Authority as part of its commemorations of the 100 years since WWI was declared and the establishment of the Prisoner of War camp on Rottnest. Based on actual historical accounts, the play follows the physical, intellectual and emotional journey and experiences of the German and Austro-Hungarian men who were interned in the Prisoner of War camp on Rottnest between August 1914 and 1915 and the Australian soldiers who were charged with guarding them.
The legacy of these men and the time they spent on Rottnest has been “captured” in this production, drawing on the rich archive of photographs, pictures, objects, drawings, letters and other writings left by these men, which trace the loneliness, despair and frustration they felt, as well as their optimism and hope under adversity.
After a successful season on Rottnest, Scooplight Theatre and the Army Museum of Western Australia are pleased to be able to offer these additional performances.
