About the Play:
Equus is a psychological, jigsaw thriller about a young man, Alan, who blinds six horses.
During the play, psychiatrist Martin Dysart struggles to ascertain the reasons behind Alan’s actions, and at the same time wonders whether he should cure Alan and “normalise” him.
Equus is an ensemble play. All actors will be on stage during most of the play.
The parts of the six horses are non-speaking, apart from the actor playing the Young Horseman.
However, these actors provide the most important feel of the ceremonial part of Alan’s religious fascination with horses.
The parts of the horses will be well suited for both male and female dancers.
Melanie Pepper (choreographer and contemporary dance performer) will be working with the horses as their movement director.
Both actors’ playing Alan and Jill need to be 18+ and be prepared to strip down to their underwear for one scene.
