About the Show:
This is a one-act Australian drama set in 1946. Jack, who is injured in the war, comes home to stay with his sister, Shirley, and her family. Jack struggles with his past just as Shirley’s daughter, Frances, struggles with her future.
Please be aware that all ages are only stage ages and actors of different ages may be cast.
PATTY, aged 9 or 10
Tomboy (older actors are encouraged to apply, especially if you believe you can portray a young girl. This is a serious role but does not exclude younger actors who feel they have the skills and confidence for the role)
JACK, aged 30/35
Patty’s Uncle. Recently returned from The War, has a leg injury.
SHIRLEY, aged around 40.
Patty’s mother. Patriotic. Traditional. Somewhat cold.
FRANCES, aged 17 to 20.
Patty’s older sister
Conflicted…Marriage or University? Intelligent.
Please prepare a piece for the audition no longer than 2 minutes. We will also read from the script in small groups, and do some improvisation warm-ups. Please wear comfortable clothes.
