Hamlet

31 Jan, 2014 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, repeating until 15 Feb, 2014

$4 - $6488

This exciting production of Hamlet, set in a contemporary context, celebrates Shakespeare’s 450th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the New Fortune Theatre. GRADS, who performed the first production there, Hamlet, in 1964, has performed a Shakespearean play in the venue almost every year since.

The opportunity to see Shakespeare performed on the unique stage, the only replica of an Elizabethan/Jacobean stage in the Southern Hemisphere, is a genuine treat for school audiences.

Hamlet is a tale about the divide that occurs between the generations. It deals with the great questions that face all young adults at one point or another. We live today in a world that has never been more connected: with Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media, we are networked in a way never before seen in history and yet we have also never been so disconnected. GRADS’ Hamlet explores these issues in a contemporary way, while retaining the original Shakespearean dialogue.
