It is no use, but William gives Isobel ninety minutes anyway. They were once married, but something happened. Something broke deep down in the mechanism of their lives together and, seeing no way to repair it, they threw it away.

But perhaps they were too hasty. Perhaps there was something they could have done. Isabel just wants ninety minutes. Soon William will be married again, so ninety is all she has to make her case. Ninety to remember what they had. Ninety to regain what was lost. Just ninety to rediscover love or call it a day, forever.

Ninety is an emotionally challenging ninety minute play presented in one act with only two actors. As such, both actors will need to be strong performers and have confidence in their ability to learn lines quickly. There will also be a heavy focus on characterisation at the beginning and carrying on throughout the rehearsal process. This production will not be an easy process but should be very fulfilling, and will reward actors committed to their craft.

Show Dates: October 2 – 18

The audition will comprise of presenting a contemporary monologue (up to 2 minutes long), having a short discussion with the director about the themes of the play and the character they are auditioning for, and finishing with reading an excerpt of the script with a partner. The aim is to begin rehearsing on the 10th of August 3 days a week, with the season running from October 2-18.

William: 40s or 50s. Playful, charming, but slightly over-the-top. An actor who found international success relatively late in his life, he is immersing himself in the glitz and glam of Hollywood in an attempt to avoid accepting the painful and traumatic events that he associates Isobel with.

Isobel: 30s or 40s. 5-10 years younger than William. Thoughtful, observant and down-to-earth. An artist who makes a living restoring antique paintings, Isobel is still struggling with the pain that she shared with William in their marriage, and requests to see him one last time in order to find some sort of closure or satisfaction.

***Please note that both ages listed are stage ages only. Actors will also be required to portray the characters 5-10 years previous to the action of the play.
