Sex Cells

11 Mar, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

About the Show:

a bitter sweet comedy by Anna Longaretti and directed by Jo Sterkenburg
Season Dates : May 11th to 21st 2017 (10 performances including 2 matinees)

In a busy call centre, the four female employees of Aphrodite, a sex toy manufacturer, take telephone orders for Teasey Maids, Titivators and rotating pearly g-strings. Beneath the cheerful customer service and easy banter however, these very different women nurse their own desires and disappointments.
Sylvie – desperate to have a baby, Janice – a busy working Mum, Tiffany – young and single and Lily – stuck in a loveless marriage. Their gentle and innocent Manager Mr Causeway holds a longstanding crush on the oblivious Lily.

Sex Cells is a very funny, poignant play about motherhood, friendship, love and loss.

Rehearsals will be held 3 times per week on Monday & Wednesdays evenings and Saturday afternoons initially and then Sunday afternoons from 23rd April.

Please contact the director Jo Sterkenburg on 0403 710 956 or email on jsterk@optusnet.com.au for further information and an audition pack.

SYLVIE (39yo) – French with an accent, slim build and always immaculately dressed. A dreamer and a perfectionist who wants to maintain control. Desperately wants to have a baby.

JANICE (38yo) – North of England accent, unintentionally dishevelled. Wears clothes that she bought when she was younger and slimmer. Has five children and feels guilty for needing time away from her kids.

TIFFANY (29yo) – fashionable slim Essex girl (accent required).

MR CAUSEWAY (55yo) – the Manager of Aphrodite, a beanpole of a man. Old fashioned in dress and manner. Very lonely and carries an unrequited love for Lily.

Audition Preparation:

The director will be looking for the ability to do a variety of English accents, Essex, North Country and also French.

Believeability is a very strong factor in this production so the Director will be looking for actors who can convincingly portray a depth of character.

The audition will be held in group format as the Director needs to see the interaction between the participants.
